The North Coast Journal did a cover story in April, 1995, which covers the early history of the Tour of the Unknown Coast. Thanks to editor Hank Sims for permission to post the article here. The article was written by Timothy Martin. Click on the pictures below for the article, which are posted top to bottom. You can also link to a text version of the article, which may be easier to read on the journal's website at http://www.northcoastjournal.com/APR95/COVER.HTM
Thanks to David Andersen for the original North Coast Journal article.
I started researching the fastest time in the Tour of the Unknown Coast and quickly compiled a huge pile of newspaper clippings. I decided to publish the articles in a scapbook style format. In this day and age of perfect high quality digital media you will have to ignore the rough quality of the scanned photos and text and just imagine you are reading someone's scrapbook.
If you participated in the tour during a given year, click on the post for that year and add comments, trivia, or other information! For example, "in 2006 the wind was so strong I was riding 2 miles per hour along the beach in my granny ring."
